In 2004 Walter and Carol Warkentin were vacationing in the Dominican Republic. They decided to bring with them a suitcase filled with extra clothing and supplies to leave for people in need. They were encouraged by an employee in their hotel to deliver the “gifts” in person to a small church group in the poorer side of Sosua known as Los Charamicos. Walter and Carol fell in love with the people there and sat through many church services understanding very little Spanish. They decided, along with some other people, to begin supporting the pastor and people through this small, poor church in the Dominican Republic.

Every year a group of volunteers spend 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic helping distribute medicines/vaccines, food and clothing for the poor.

Warkentin Homes is committed to continually supporting the people in this poor community in Sosua, Dominican Republic.   Please visit www.dominicanconnection.org
